What's New at IAFF 789
Working Fire on Fotene Street

Shortly before 1000 hours on November 13, 2008, Nashua Fire Alarm began receiving calls for a reported building fire at 44 Fotene Street. Initially dispatched to the fire were Engine Co. 6, Engine Co. 2 and Ladder Co. 2 along with Deputy O'Brien and the Safety Officer. Engine Co. 6 arrived and reported a mobile home well involved with reports on an occupant inside. Engine Co. 2 and Ladder Co. 2 arrived shortly after and assisted in the initial operations that included searching the burning structure, stretching attack lines and laying over 1000' of supply line to a hydrant on West Hollis Street. Engine Co. 5 was dispatched to the fire as the 3rd engine for the working fire. The single occupant of the home was unable to escape the fire. The Nashua Fire Marshal's and New Hampshire Fire Marshal's offices are working to determine the cause of the fire.

100th LODD of 2008 Reported in United States

Probationary Firefighter Jamel Sears age 33, of the New York City Fire Department in New York, NY died in the line of duty of November 11, 2008. Firefighter Sears had just completed a training session when he collapsed suddenly. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Firefighter Sears was the 100th firefighter to die in the line of duty in 2008. He served the FDNY since July 2008.

Nashua Firefighters Elected to State House

Three members of Nashua Fire Rescue have been elected to serve in the New Hampshire House of Respresenatives. Mike O'Brien was re-elected for a second term while Tim Soucy and Brian Rhodes won seats for the first time. Congratulations and good luck to all.

2nd Alarm on Harvard Street

On Friday October 24, 2008 at 1000 hours, Nashua Fire Alarm dispatched Engine 1, Engine 6, and Ladder 2 along with the Deputy Chief and the Safety Officer for a report of smoke coming from the building at 7 Harvard Street in the Crown Hill Section of the City. Mayor Vetos Contract...7 Alderman Support Veto

Mayor Donnalee Lozeau Vetoed the 5 year contract the the Board of Alderman passed 8-6 on October 14, 2008. The Board of Alderman Supported the veto by a vote of 7 in favor and 8 against. In order to override teh veto 10 votes are needed. If you are a citizen of Nashua and you support the fact the Local 789 negotiated in good faith, please contact the Mayor and voice your concern regarding her actions.
